Last week Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 40th birthday with a big blowout bash in New York City. While we don’t normally get swept up in celebrity gossip, we can’t help but think of Gwyneth’s gorgeous residence known as the “House of Windsor”— a cause for celebration as much as any birthday.
Originally a showhouse conceived by famed designer Windsor Smith and Veranda Magazine, the House of Windsor is an 8000-square-foot showstopper purchased this past June by Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin. The Los Angeles home includes rooms designed by a myriad of leading designers, and while each one is stunning, we’ve picked out three of our favorites.
Taking inspiration from her own childhood visits to the English countryside, designer Kathryn M. Ireland drew from her unique home style for the conversion of a real stable into a beautiful and functional living space. Ireland combined antiques with flea market finds to create a layered look and mixes in her signature textiles for warmth and color. Her dining and sitting areas feature Troy Lighting’s Circa 1910 fixtures that deliver extra pops of rustic realness.
A favorite of Los Angeles celebrities and renowned for his broad range of styles, designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard used his own fabric design to deck the walls and ceiling in this eclectic, yet sophisticated screening room. A 1970s de Sede sofa rounds out the retro look, providing the perfect place to play videogames or watch “Saturday Night Fever.”
Known for transplanting his European flair into the heart of Hollywood, designer Peter Dunham brought his glamorous style to the study in a bold blend of textures and patterns. His Gattopardo Linen textile mixes with vintage and new pieces, including Troy Lighting’s Mercury pendant, which adds a sparkling centerpiece with a touch of mystery.
