Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Italy is one of the most important global trade shows for the design industry with premier designers and companies showcasing their newest collections collections and products.
Prior to the show’s opening, which ran April 17-22, our correspondent had the opportunity to explore new offerings from Italian bath brand, Devon & Devon. The company is renowned for its high-end coordinated bath and interior design products and we were not disappointed as their gleaming showroom and fantastic vignettes elegantly articulated the brands products and lifestyle.
Particularly noteworthy were the Admiral Tub, noted for its cast iron construction and copper-color enamel finish, and the white ceramic Serenade Console which complement each other beautifully. All Devon & Devon products are designed and built in Italy, with showrooms across Europe and are distributed in North America through Watermark Designs.
The show itself can be quite overwhelming, as visitors are inundated with thousands of new products ranging from the obscure to globally recognized. A big draw at the show was the LAUFEN booth which was teeming with visitors attracted to the new and expanded Palomba collection, designed in collaboration with Ludovica+Roberto Palomba. Roberto Palomba was on hand to speak with us about his inspirations and design process and, as always, was charming and eloquent. This year was a significant one for LAUFEN, celebrating 120 years of innovative design with an exclusive party in Milan, complete with a birthday cake and dramatic art installations created with LAUFEN ceramics.
THG commanded plenty of attention from visitors for their partnership with French crystal studio Daum—the result being its namesake collection of hand crafted faucets. THG’s products continually elicit responses from attendees, and this year was no different. Along with the Daum series, the brand presented contemporary-style collections, including Le 11, by Alberto Pinto of Paris.
Since its inception in 1961, Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan has become an grander and more popular affair, proving its relevance to the design industry as well as designers and architects everywhere. Great connections were made and ideas exchanged; we look forward to next year’s show and beyond.
